Women's Tennis Stumbles at Florida Southern


Lakeland, Fla. - The Wayne State women's tennis team (18-5) suffered and 8-1 defeat at the hands of Florida Southern University on Monday.

The Warriors picked up their lone point at number four singles as Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 winner. The Warriors had four matches go to three sets with the battle at number one singles going to a tiebreak.

Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) dropped her 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (4) flight at the top of the Warrior lineup after winning the first set.

Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and Manu Materak (Amberg, Germany / Erasmus-Gymnasium) were also defeated in three sets at third and fifth singles respectively. Poissant lost her match 2-6, 6-4, 4-6 while Materak lost 5-7, 6-3, 3-6.

The Warrior doubles teams also battled hard but came up just short and put themselves behind 3-0 early in Monday's match.

Lisa Thomas competed for WSU and won her first ever college match in an exhibition 8-1.
