DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad will resume Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on the road, as the squad travels to Grand Rapids, Mich., to face No. 28-ranked Davenport University at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors fell 5-2 to Division 1 Oakland University in the team's last outing.
Despite missing out on the doubles point, the pairing of
Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland / Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa) and
Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que. / Collège de Montréal High School) nabbed a 6-2 win in the top slot.
In singles.
Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) collected a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles position, while Beaulieu nabbed a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4 triumph at the No. 4 singles slot.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Davenport is the No. 28-ranked squad in the country according to the latest poll from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), with a 13-5 ledger, including a 2-0 mark in the conference.
Skye Vandeleur competes at the No. 1 position for the Panthers, tallying a 6-9 record at the top slot. At the No. 4 singles position, Maja Sandstrom holds an impressive 18-4 record, with most of her dual matches coming at the No. 4 position. Â
In doubles, Vandeleur and Sienna Opray occupy the No. 1 doubles position, with an 8-10 ledger.
ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
The ITA released its newest team, singles and doubles rankings this past Wednesday, with multiple WSU student-athletes being ranked. Â
A pair of Warriors were ranked in singles, with Arafat checking in at 45th, and Szpakowska being ranked 50th. Szpakowska and Beaulieu were tabbed as the No. 46-ranked pairing nationally.
