Boxscore

Midland, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (12-6 overall, 9-2 GLIAC) concluded its 2012-13 regular-season with a 6-3 setback at No. 35-Northwood University (13-4 overall, 11-0 GLIAC) Tuesday afternoon.  The match was held at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

The Warriors started strong against the reigning GLIAC champions by winning two of the three doubles matches.  Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) combined for an 8-2 win at second doubles, while Jason Chen (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) and Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) were 8-4 victors at No. 3 doubles.  The No. 1 doubles tandem of Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont. / Assumption College HS) and Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) lost 8-5.

WSU's lone singles triumph came at the fifth flight as FitzGerald won two tightly contested sets (7-6, 7-5).

Gill and Ducret at first and second singles, respectively, pushed their matches to a deciding third set only to fall (Gill 6-0, 6-7, 6-3; Ducret 6-4, 3-6, 7-6).

Wayne State will begin GLIAC tournament play on Friday evening against Michigan Tech, the only other league foe to defeat the Warriors during the regular season.  All three days of the GLIAC tournament will be held at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
