Men's Tennis Advances With 5-2 Win Over Michigan Tech

Chen, Ducret and Joseph all win singles and doubles.

Midland, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (13-6 overall) avenged one of its regular-season setbacks with a 5-2 triumph over Michigan Tech (15-9 overall) in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament Friday night at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

WSU will face Ferris State in Saturday's semifinal action. The Bulldogs were 5-0 victors over Tiffin in the opening round.

The Warriors led 2-1 after doubles play as Melvin Joseph and Michael FitzGerald claimed a 9-7 win at second doubles, while Thomas Ducret and Jason Chen won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Wayne State completed the victory with singles wins at the second, third and fifth flights.

Ducret was a 7-5, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles, with Chen winning in straight sets at fifth singles.

Joseph claimed a three set win at third singles to finish the match.
