DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's tennis team (7-5, 4-1 GLIAC) earned a huge win over the Bulldogs of Ferris State (11-3, 8-1 GLIAC) in the MultiPurpose Indoor Facility. Ferris had been atop the GLIAC standings heading into Wednesday's match.
The Warriors came out firing early after doubles play had the Bulldogs in a 2-1 hole. The top flight of
Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont. / Assumption College HS) and
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich. / Troy) picked up a gritty 9-7 win for the lone WSU point. The Bulldogs took second doubles 8-4 and WSU grabbed the final flight 8-3.
Singles play, especially the lower end of singles play was where the Warriors took over.
Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) swept the third singles spot at 6-0, 6-0 while
Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Grosse Ile) was also a big winner at fifth singles with his 6-0, 3-0 win that was called due to the match already being decided.
Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville ) took home a 6-2, 6-4 win at fourth singles and
Jason Chen (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) wrapped up the WSU scoring with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the final singles flight.
Up next for the Green and Gold will be Grand Valley on Sunday at 10:00 am with that match most likely taking place in the M.I.F. as well.
