MIDLAND, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-0) claimed its first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship Sunday morning at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
The Warriors defeated Grand Valley State (12-3) 5-4 in the final tournament match.
The Lakers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Senior
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) took an 8-3 win at the top flight in doubles.

Kamenko won WSU's first singles match to be completed claiming a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 flight. Moore was the next to win at No. 1 singles in a hard-fought three set match with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) won the second singles flight 6-1, 6-2.
The match came down to No. 4 singles with the score tied 4-4 in the decisive third set. Senior
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) won the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to give the Warriors the final point needed to win the match and the tournament.
Head coach
Sheila Snyder was presented with the GLIAC Coach of the Year award as voted on by her peers. A complete release will be posted on Monday listing all of WSU's All-GLIAC Award recipients.
By virtue of their win today, the Warriors receive an automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament in May 2015.
