ITA National Rankings
DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team moved up five spots to No. 45 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Team Rankings, which were released on Wednesday. The Warriors had been in a tie for 50th in the ITA rankings.
The Warriors (21-4 overall) have been ranked in the top 50 in all three national polls so far this season. Wayne State's climb to the No. 45 spot marks the highest position the Warriors have held all season. All four of WSU's losses this year have come to teams ranked higher than WSU in the national rankings -- St. Leo (No. 7), Tampa (No. 23) and twice to Northwood (No. 34).
Three GLIAC schools are currently ranked in the national rankings, including Wayne State. Northwood (No. 34) and Grand Valley (No. 46) are the other two conference programs ranked in the top 50.
Along with earning a national team ranking, the Warriors are also currently ranked No. 3 in the Midwest regional rankings, just behind Northwood (No. 2) and ahead of Grand Valley (No. 4). Drury University is ranked No. 1 in the Midwest rankings.
Juniors
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que.) and
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) also received a No. 23 national ranking as a doubles pair. They were the only GLIAC individuals -- in singles or doubles -- to receive a national ranking in the poll.
Wayne State has two more regular season matches, at Indiana (Penn.) on April 12 and against West Liberty on April 13 in Indiana, Penn.
