MIDLAND, Mich.
-- The fourth-seeded Wayne State University men's tennis team (10-9 overall) dropped a GLIAC Tournament semifinal match, 5-1, to top-seeded Northwood University (16-3 overall) on Saturday at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

WSU will play Ferris State University in the third-place match Sunday. The Warriors, which lost to the Bulldogs 6-3 in Big Rapids earlier in the season, will look to earn their best finish at the tournament since 2011 with a win over FSU.

The Warriors lost all three doubles matches to open the match, as Northwood began the match with a 3-0 lead. Wayne State's top doubles pair of freshman Stephane Robineau (Paris, France) and junior Trey Keating (Troy, Mich. / Troy) fell at the top flight, 8-4.

At the No. 2 flight, senior Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Grosse Ile) and freshman Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) dropped an 8-4 match. Wayne State competed in a competitive, back-and-forth match at the third flight in doubles, but the Wayne State pair of senior Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and sophomore Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) ultimately fell in a tiebreaker, losing the match 9-8.

Wayne State fell behind 4-0 after Charriere dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match to Northwood's Jean Menard at No. 1 singles. The Warriors gained a point back as Keating won at the sixth flight, 6-3, 6-4. Northwood, however, clinched the match at No. 4 singles as Konstantin Zhukov defeated Kechai, 6-3, 6-4.

WSU has clinched its sixth-straight finish in the top four of the league tournament under head coach Bryan Morrow. The match Sunday against Ferris State begins at 8:30 a.m.
