ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team earned a 206.5-93.5 victory Saturday over Grand Valley State University. The win was the Warriors sixth straight over the Lakers.
WSU took first place in 13 of the events against GVSU.
Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) won all three events she swam in. She claimed first place in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:23.69 and the 200 butterfly touching in 2:02.99 earning an NCAA "B" cut qualifying standard. Novichenko swam the 100 butterfly in 57.93.
Gloria Martinez Perez (Merida, Spain) barely won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.49 with Grand Valley State's Sarah Roeser coming in second (24.50). Martinez Perez won the 100 freestyle in a time of 52.42 earning an NCAA "B" cut qualifying standard. She also took home the victory in the 200 IM (2:09.20).
Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich. / Traverse City West) won the 100 backstroke in 56.27 earning an NCAA "B" cut qualifying standard. Maleski also took first in the 200 backstroke (2:08.14).
Kei Cze Prentis (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.61Â and
Manuela Ferreira (Ibague, Colombia) placed first in both the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.33 and the 200 backstroke (2:26.17).
Kaylee Dolinski (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) placed second in the 500 freestyle touching in a time of 5:16.30.
In diving,
Alex Geddis-McCririe (Brighton, Mich.) took second in the one-meter dive with a score of 251.85 earning the only NCAA "A" cut qualifying standard for the women's team.
Elizabeth Rawlings (Armada, Mich. / Romeo) claimed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 254.93.
WSU won both of the relays. The 200 medley relay team of Maleski, Ferreira, Martinez Perez, and
Emily Maraskine (Midland, Mich. / Dow) along with the 200 free relay quartet of Maleski,
Meghan Lamb (East China, Mich. / St. Clair),
Makayla Myers (Hudsonville, Mich.), and Prentis earned top honors.
The Warriors return competitively to the pool Friday, hosting Findlay for a 5 p.m. dual meet.
