ASHLAND, Ohio – The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team topped Ashland, 155-130, in its first GLIAC meet of the 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon at Messerly Natatorium. The Warriors won 11 of 16 events against the Eagles, 10 individual and one relay.
RELAYS- Freshmen
Dmytro Drobnych (Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine) and
Ahmed Ahmed (Alexandria, Egypt), senior
Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich.) and junior
Josh Schacht (Schoolcraft, Mich. Mattawan) won the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:35.67. The quartet of junior
Mitch Bohr (Novi, Mich. / Walled Lake Western), senior
Aryell Pasternak (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren De La Salle), freshman
Rasmus Olsen (Kastrup, Denmark) and senior
Ben Winn (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) placed third (1:40.40).
- Two foursomes competed in the 200 freestyle relay, but as an exhibition.
INDIVIDUAL- Rasmus led WSU in two individual events over AU. The freshman swept the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.99 and the 200 butterfly (1:56.22).
- Drobnych was victorious in both the 100 backstroke (52.38) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.56).
- Sophomore
Tyler Roshak (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison) recorded a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:48.83.
- In the 50 freestyle, Schacht finished first with a time of 21.41, while Gensheimer placed second in 21.61. Gensheimer garnered a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 47.85 with Schacht finishing in second (47.89) and Roshak in third (48.59), respectively.
- Sophomore
Khayman Jones (Adrian, Mich.) claimed both diving events with 219.30 in the 1-meter and 254.70 in the 3-meter. Classmate
Erik LaCroix (Taylor, Mich. / St. Francis Cabrini) and freshman
Ethan Schmidt (South Lyon, Mich.) competed in both events.
- Ahmed finished the 500 freestyle race in 4:48.76 to clinch first place. The freshman improved his time from last week against Division I Oakland by 3.5 seconds. He also recorded a mark of 9:57.85 in the 1000 freestyle for second place. Senior
Kris Hector (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) and freshman
Kurt White (Warren, Mich. / De La Salle) finished third (10:30.69) and fourth (10:35.79), respectively.
- Bohr posted a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.92, and finished third in the 200 butterfly in 2:00.50.
UP NEXT- WSU will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on Division III opponent Calvin on Nov. 20 at the Venema Aquatic Center with a 5 p.m. start. The Warriors defated the Knights, 137-101, last season.
