Men's Tennis Begins GLIAC Play With Win at Walsh

WSU won all three doubles matches on Friday.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (2-3, 1-0 GLIAC) opened up GLIAC play with a 7-2 win at Walsh (5-7, 0-2 GLIAC) on Friday afternoon.

WSU won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) and Luke Ruocco (Lewes, England) won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) paired with Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India) to win 8-4 at second doubles. At No. 3 doubles, the tandem of Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) and Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) cruised to an 8-1 win.

Menta secured the team win with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

Fazyl Kechai was victorious at No .1 singles, 7-6, 6-3. Charriere dropped his second singles flight 7-5, 6-4. Ruocco fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Keating (6-2, 7-5) and Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) (6-0, 6-2) won at No. 5 and No 6 singles, respectively

The Warriors will compete at Ohio Dominican on Saturday beginning at 3 PM.
