KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track squad competed in six events on Saturday to conclude the three-day Tennesse Relays Powered by Sea Ray.
WSU student-athletes broke four school records and notched one NCAA Provisional qualifying time.
Junior
Chelsea Johnson (Oxford, Mich.) not only broke the school record in the 3k steeplechase, but also had the sixth fastest NCAA Division II time this spring with her third-place finish time of 10:40.76, which was an NCAA Provisional qualifying time. Sophomore
Leah Coonrod (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Gull Lake) also competed in the 3k steeplechase for the first time in her career.
Sophomore thrower
Elizabeth Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) eclipsed the previous school records in both the shot put (13.04m / 42-09.50) and javelin (39.01m / 128-00). Her twin sister Gabrielle also participated in both events.
The fourth school record of the day to fall was in the 4x400 relay as sophomore
Dazmonique Carr (Lawnside, N.J. / Haddon Heights), sophomore
Leah Ellis (Battle Creek, Mich. / Central), freshman
Karrington Seals (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) along with sophomore
Imani Bush (Canton, Ohio / South) crossed the finish line in 3:50.95.
WSU's 4x100 relay quartet of Ellis, sophomore
Kierra Johnson (Flint, Mich. / Brandon), sophomore
Jewel Wilson (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) and Carr recorded the second-fastest time in school history at 48.73.
Wilson also participated in the triple jump.
Wayne State also had competitors in at least seven events at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational on Saturday, but no results have been posted.
