DETROIT -- On a perfect day for tennis, the Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-9, 4-4 GLIAC) secured a berth in the GLIAC Tournament with a 9-0 sweep over Lake Superior State (2-15, 0-8 GLIAC) on Saturday morning. The Warriors are now tied for fifth in the GLIAC standings.
WSU took all three doubles matches by scores of 8-4.
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) and
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) won at No. 1 doubles,
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) and
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India) won at No. 2 doubles and
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) and
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) won at No. 3 doubles.
Fazyl Kechai won at the top flight of singles 6-3, 6-4. Charriere cruised to a win at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Keating battled his way to a win at the third flight of singles, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7). At No. 4 singes, Menta bested his opponent 7-6 (11-9), 6-2.
Luke Ruocco (Lewes, England) won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1 while Reed won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
WSU concludes the regular season against Michigan Tech on Sunday at 10 AM.
