DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (9-10 overall, 4-1 GLIAC) suffered a 5-4 heartbreak loss to No. 37 Grand Valley State (12-6 overall, 5-1 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts in Midtown Detroit.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Senior
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) and freshman
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) topped Michael Kaye and Nick Urban, 8-0, at the third doubles flight, while junior
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) and freshman
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) beat Zach Phillips and Alex van de Steenoven, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.
- Sophomore
Harvey Reed (Winchester, England) and junior
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) won a close 9-7 match over Jack Heiniger and Sebastien Lescoulie at the second doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS
-Charriere posted a two-set win (6-3, 6-1) over Phillips at the second singles flight, while Reed lost in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 4-6, to Heiniger at No. 4 singles.
- Freshman
Jason Potter (Sterling Heights, Mich. / International Academy East) was defeated (2-6, 6-7) by Urban at the sixth singles position, and Carlson fell, 4-6, 3-6, to Andrew Bole at the fifth singles flight.
- Vane was bested, 3-6, 3-6, by Lescoulie at No. 3 singles, while Kechai was topped by Steenoven (0-6, 3-6) at the first singles position.

- WSU will host No. 36 Ferris State on Sunday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The match is slated for 10 a.m.
