ASHLAND, Ohio – The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team earned its first win of the season Friday, claiming nine events in a tri-meet win over Ashland and Tiffin.
The Warriors earned a 131.50-78.5 win over Tiffin and a 137-88 win over the host Eagles.
Three Warriors took two first-place finishes in the meet. Junior
Rasmus Olsen (Kastrup, Denmark) was joined by junior
Dima Drobnych (Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine), sophomore
Sasha Palazzo (Verona, Italy) and senior
Tyler Roshak (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison) in the winning 200 medley relay (1:51.97), while Olsen individually claimed the 200 butterfly (1:54.78). Sophomore
Leonardo de Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won the 1000 free (9:58.47) and the 500 free (4:50.14), while sophomore
Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich. / Novi) took the 50 free (20.91) and the 100 free (47.23).
DIVING RESULTS
Wayne State claimed both diving events. Senior
Khayman Jones (Adrian, Mich. / Adrian) won the 1-meter (264.65), which was followed by freshman Max Wyche (Detroit, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) (244.80) and sophomore
Nate Michna (Belleville, Mich. / Belleville) (223.25). In the 3-meter event, Wyche scored a meet-best 276.00, with Jones taking second (271.95).
SWIMMING RESULTS
-Sophomore Joao Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won the 200 IM (1:55.61) and took third in the 200 fly (1:57.94).
-Olsen was second in the 200 free (1:46.87), with Roshak claiming the runner-up spot in the 50 free (22.09) and third in the 100 free (47.38).
-Drobnych was second in the 200 back (1:52.66).
UP NEXT
The teams will be out of action next weekend before traveling to Grand Rapids for a Friday, Nov. 17 dual meet with Calvin. The event will begin at 5 p.m.
