MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (9-10, 6-3 GLIAC) concluded the regular season on a high note on Wednesday with a 5-4 victory at Northwood (9-10, 5-4 GLIAC). With the win, WSU secured the fourth seed and will meet fifth-seeded Hillsdale (12-8, 5-4 GLIAC) in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Wayne State got off to a strong start winning two of the three doubles matches. Freshman
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and sophomore sophomore
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) won at No. 1 doubles 8-2.
- Senior
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) paired up with junior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) to win 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
- Senior
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) and sophomore
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) dropped their match at No. 2 doubles 8-4.
SINGLES RESULTS
- Westkamp dropped his match at No. 1 single in three sets, while Charriere also dropped his match at No. 2 singles.
- Vane and Mertz both were winners at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
- Reed fell at No. 5 singles but Carlson was triumphant at the six flight of singles, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
UP NEXT
- The Warriors will begin the postseason Friday back in Midland as Northwood hosts the GLIAC Tournament.
