Four Tennis Players Earn All-GLIAC Accolades

DETROIT -- Four members of the Wayne State University women's tennis squad received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) accolades as announced by the league office Friday evening.

Senior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team. Freshman Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) both earned Second Team All-Conference honors, while redshirt sophomore Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.

Kuznetsova played solely at No. 1 singles, sporting a 7-2 record in matches against GLIAC opponents this season. She also ended the year with a 5-2 GLIAC record between her doubles matches at the first and second flights.

Cazacu had a strong first season at Wayne State, finishing with an 8-1 GLIAC singles record. She played at the second, third, and fourth flights throughout her matches. Partnering up with Liong at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the duo ended the GLIAC season with a 7-2 mark. At the second flight, the pair is undefeated at 6-0. Cazacu was named GLIAC Player of the Week on Oct. 15.

Liong played No. 2 and No. 3 singles, finishing with a GLIAC record of 7-2. She went unbeaten at the third flight with a 4-0 mark.

Da-Silva recorded a 5-1 GLIAC record between No. 3 and No. 4 singles this season. She was undefeated at No. 4 singles, 4-0. Da-Silva partnered up with Kuznetsova at the first doubles flight, earning a 4-2 record in GLIAC matches.

Wayne State began GLIAC Tournament play this evening as the No. 4 seed facing fifth-seeded Ferris State.
