FINDLAY, Ohio – The Wayne State University men's tennis team improved to 2-1 overall on Friday, sweeping the singles division while defeating host Findlay 8-1 at the YMCA East Complex.
Sophomore 
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany), junior 
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and junior 
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) were all double-winners for the Warriors.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Westkamp and Vane paired for an 8-5 win in the first flight, defeating Carlos Blanco and Nicholas Kopylec.  In the second flight, Mertz joined senior 
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) to defeat UF's Jorge Barnuevo and Trevor Majdalani, 8-5.  The Oilers got their lone win in the third flight, as Ivaylo Slavov and Brad Strawser won 8-6 over sophomore 
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and sophomore 
Jason Potter (Sterling Heights, Mich. / International Academy East).
SINGLES RESULTS
Westkamp won in the first flight with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Blanco.
Vane claimed the second flight over Kopylec, 6-2, 6-3.
Mertz won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, defeating Barnuevo.
In the fourth flight, freshman 
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) won over Majdalani, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 5, Sammons defeated Trevor Majdalani, 6-4, 6-1.
The sixth flight went the way of Potter, defeating Brad Strawser 6-4, 7-5 (10-2).
UP NEXT
It will be a quick turnaround for the Warriors, as the team will travel to Canton, Ohio on Saturday to face Walsh.  First serve will take place at 4 p.m.
