SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (6-6 overall) fell to seventh-ranked host Saint Leo (7-0 overall) Monday night, 8-1.
Sophomore
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, were the lone winners for WSU. The duo claimed a point at No. 3 doubles, defeating Francisco Aparicio and Bruno Babic (8-4).
DOUBLES RESULTS
At No. 1, sophomore
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and junior
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) fell to Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot, 8-3.
Junior
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) lost to the duo of Jaime Bueno and Willem van den Akker (8-6).
SINGLES RESULTS
Vane played the No. 1 slot and lost to Grinberg, 6-3, 6-0.
Mertz was defeated by Suillerot at the second slot (6-1, 6-1).
Karcz lost 6-0, 6-1 to Bueno at No. 3.
In the fourth flight, Reed was bested by Babic (6-3, 6-1).
Aparicio was victorious over Sammons at No. 5 (6-2, 7-6).
Sophomore
Jason Potter (Sterling Heights, Mich. / International Academy East) suffered a 6-3, 6-2 setback to Willen can den Akker.
