DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics honored the Warrior student-athletes who recorded at least a 3.50 grade-point average for the Fall 2017 term during its 18th annual Academic Recognition Luncheon. The following members of the Spirit Squad team (Cheer & Dance) were recognized:

A school-record thirty-three (33) student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.00 term GPA with a record 74 percent of Warrior student-athletes receiving above a 3.00 for the recently completed Fall (2017) semester.

Also recognized at the luncheon was Robert E. Simanek, a 1958 graduate of Wayne State University and a 1952 recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War.  Simanek was presented with a No. 58 Wayne State University Medal of Honor football jersey with his name on the back.
