Women's Tennis Moves Into National Rankings

Warriors are 24th nationally and second in the Midwest Region

The 2018-19 women's tennis team is ranked 24th nationally.
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) recently released its teams ranking for the second time this academic year, and the Wayne State University women's tennis squad is ranked 24th nationally.

The Warriors, who won the GLIAC Tournament title this past fall and received an automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships, are currently second in the Midwest Region behind 10th-ranked Indianapolis.

WSU will be making its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 15 seasons on May 13-14.

Wayne State begins its spring schedule at home on February 27 vs. Lawrence Tech, before facing two top-10 squads during its spring break trip in No. 7 Saint Leo (March 7) and No. 8 Nova Southeastern (March 11).

If the Warriors remain in the top two in the region, they will host an NCAA Regional event for the second time in school history (first was in 2015).

WSU is 4-9 all-time in the NCAA Regional Tournament, winning in 2014 at Northwood to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
