AUGUSTA, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's golf team met Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Championship semifinal on Sunday morning and the Warriors were tied 2.5 points to 2.5 points after 18 holes but the Lakers won on overall strokes, 381 to 389.
Each team match consisted of five points with one point being awarded for each individual match. The two winning teams advanced to the finals. Each individual match was played to completion, and the first team to win three points within the team match will advance to the finals, or in the case of the final match, be declared GLIAC champion. Â
The three-day event was played at Stonehedge South Golf Course (Par 72 / 5,813 Yards).
MATCH PLAY RESULTS
Junior
Anastassia Lee (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) faced Morgan Janke-Wolff and both carded rounds of 79 to split the point.
Freshman
Daniela Moreno (Bogota, Colombia) met Mackenzie Blomberg and won with 75 compared to a 79.
Sophomore
Brooke Busse (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Hills) won against Erin Johnson with a 77, while Johnson carded an 83.
Senior
Meredith Weidner (Cincinnati, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) shot a 78, while Maria Sol Pose finished with a 74.
The individual medalist Katie Chipman shot an impressive 66 against junior
Josie Kurosky (Elgin, Ill. / Burlington Central) who carded an 80. Â That difference proved to be the deciding factor as the first tiebreaker was overall strokes.
