Softball Produces 10 Academic All-GLIAC Honorees

Warriors had eight All-Academic Excellence recipients, tied for most in program history.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program had eight GLIAC All-Academic Excellence recipients for the 2020 season, which tied for the most in school history.  WSU had 10 total All-Academic honorees (8 Excellence, 2 Academic), which marks the seventh straight year the Warriors have had at least 10 student-athletes receive All-Academic accolades from the league office.  Wayne State has had 105 GLIAC All-Academic honorees over head coach Gary Bryce's last 10 seasons at the helm, and 175 recipients of academic laurels in the last 18 years.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were seniors Rachelle Clayton (Guelph, Ont. / Guelph C.V.I.) and Brooke Turkalj (St. Jacobs, Ont. / St. David Catholic S.S.), juniors Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, Ont. / St. Mary's), Rose Myers (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) and Rainey Psenicka (Guelph, Ont. / Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic), redshirt sophomore Emily Dodge (Burlington, Ont. / Dr. Frank J. Hayden S.S.), and sophomores Paige Ameel (Marysville, Mich.) and Raechel Carroll (Southgate, Mich. / Anderson).

Clayton (Nursing), and Turkalj (Neuroscience) received Excellence Team honors for the third consecutive season, while Kressler (Kinesiology), Myers (Psychology) and Psenicka (Kinesiology) garnered All-Academic Excellence honors for the second consecutive season.  Dodge (Kinesiology) improved from the All-Academic Team in 2019, to the All-Academic Excellence squad in 2020.  Ameel (Marketing) and Carroll (Management) were first-time eligible in 2020.

WSU had two members of the softball team collect All-Academic Team accolades for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.  They were senior Emma Adams (Rockwood, Ont. / John F. Ross C.V.I.) and sophomore Kassidy Moonen (Clarkston, Mich.).

Adams (Kinesiology) earned her third straight All-Academic recognition, while Moonen (Kinesiology) was eligible for the first time this spring.

Wayne State set a school record during the 2019-20 academic year with 206 GLIAC All-Academic honorees shattering the previous mark of 186 set during the 2016-17 academic year.
