Men's Golf in First at Kyle Ryman Memorial

The Warriors posted an impressive 278 to open the event on Monday morning.

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's golf program competed in the first 36 holes of the Kyle Ryman Memorial hosted by Tiffin on Monday.  The two-day event is being played at Mohawk Country Club (Par 72 / 6,705 Yards).  The Warriors were sharp all day and posted a 563 (278, 285) to lead the 15-team field after two rounds. The Warriors posted eight individual rounds that were under-par on Monday.

The team total of 278 is the lowest since a 274 at the HawksHead Invitational on Sept. 29, 2019.  The Green & Gold won this event the last time it participated back during the 2017-18 season with an 869 (291, 288, 290).  

LEADING THE WAY
WSU's top performer was playing as an individual.  That was Max Leppelmeier (Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville) who carded a 139 (70, 69) and is in second place.  Findlay's Jonathan Green sits atop the leaderboard with a 137 (72, 65).  The low-man in the Warriors' starting lineup was Josh DiCarlo (Amherstburg, Ont. / General Amherst) who is tied-for-third with a 140 (70, 70)

THE FIELD
Chasing Wayne State on Tuesday will be, Ohio Dominican (570), Hillsdale (573), Findlay (573), Findlay's B-team (577), Saginaw Valley State (578) and Tiffin (579).

WSU RESULTS
Matt Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) is inside the top 10 (T9th) after shooting a 142 (69, 73) and he is tied with Mat Hawryluk (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham) who also shot a 142 (68, 74).

Sean Niles (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) finished the first day of action with a 144 (75, 69), as did Garret Day (Chatham, Ont. / Ursuline College Chatham).  Day paired a 71 and 733 to reach his total.

Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.) was playing unattached and collected a 145 (72, 73), while Ian Smith (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) shot a 151 (72, 79).

The Warriors will finish the tournament with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
