DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team topped Northern Michigan University, 169-125, on Sunday morning at the Matthaei Naatorium on Senior Day.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Freshman Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) placed third in the 200 free (1:45.44) and second in the 100 free (47.03).
Sophomore Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) earned a first in the 50 free (20.37). Junior Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'anse Creuse North) came in second (20.86) and freshman Collin Che (Midland, Mich. / Dow) placed third (21.42).
Redshirt junior Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) earned a first in the 50 back (22.90) followed by junior Tristan Fraley (St. Clair, Mich.) in second (23.90).
Mueller also earned a first in the 100 back (50.61) with freshman Brody Jamieson (Farmington, Mich.) finishing in second (51.77) and Cvetko following in third (52.42).
Freshman Alex Brent (Lake Orion, Mich.) placed first in the one-meter diving event and had an NCAA B-standard score (303.00 points) and also placed first in the three-meter (247.80 points) competition. Coming in second was junior Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) (240.75 points), who also placed second in the three-meter dive (246.67). Sophomore Andrew Ceely (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) placed third in the three-meter (234.82).
Sophomore Hans Anderson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) placed second in the 50 breast (25.83) and second in the 100 breast (58.04). Graduate student Hussain Alzaid (Kuwait City, Kuwait) came in third in both the 50 breast (26.58) and 100 breast (58.71).
Jamieson earned first place in the 100 fly (50.63), while sophomore Josh Mahaney (Saline, Mich.) came in third (51.78).
Freshman Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) placed second in the 1000 free (9:58.89) and third in the 500 free (4:49.03).
Senior Jack Rogers (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central) earned a first in the 100 free (46.99).
Mahaney placed first in the 50 fly (23.11).
Senior Day was capped off by the men's 200 free relay breaking the pool record in a time trial. The four-person contingent of Cvetko, Müller, Wolsek and Rogers swam a 1:20.54, eclipsing the pool mark of 1:22.85 set in 2005 by a University of Indianapolis quartet. Cvetko also broke the pool record for 50 free of 20.33 set by Andrey Seryy in 2010 by swimming the leadoff leg in 19.98. Muller went 19.78 as the second leg, while Wolsek swam a 20.45 and Rogers concluded the meet with a 20.33 as the anchor.
RELAY RESULTS
WSU notched a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:30.5). The winning quartet included Mueller as the lead, Anderson, Wolsek and Cvetko as anchor.
Wayne State also swam the fastest in the 400 free relay (3:08.73). The winning squad was Jamieson, sophomore Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) , Fraley, Nowinski.
