Women's Track Adds Four To Roster For 2021-22

Two high school signees and two graduate transfers join the Warriors.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University women's track and field, and cross country coach Grant Lofdahl has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the 2021-22 academic year.

Joining the Warriors this fall will be two graduate student transfers in Jessi Lindstrom (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing / Bowling Green State University) and Britney Carnagie (Macomb, Mich. / Lutheran North / Adrian College) and two recent high school graduates in Kay-Lee McSwain (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) and Savannah Pointe (Harrison Twp., Mich. / Anchor Bay).  Lindstrom will also be a member of the WSU Cross Country team.

2020-21:  Cross Country:  Competed in the Falcon Invitational and MAC Championship 6K meets ... placed 58th at the Falcon Invitational ... finished 37th at the MAC Championships with a season-best time of 22:24.6.  Indoor:  Ran the 800m, the mile and 3000m events ... placed 15th at the MAC Championships in the 800m race in a season-best time of 2:20.23 ... garnered a season-best time of 5:12.68 for the mile at The Big Meet ... posted a season-best mark of 10:39.,74 for 3000m in the dual meet against Toledo.  Outdoor:  Ran both the 800m and 1500m races ... posted a season-best time of 2:22.81 for 800m at the Gibson Invitational ... finished second in the 1500m race at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in a season-best time of 4:47.86.

2019-20:  Cross Country:  Did not compete.  Indoor:  Did not compete ... was redshirted.  Outdoor:  Season was canceled due to COVID-19.

2018-19:  Cross Country:  Competed in five races, with one being unattached ... participated in the Toledo Rockets Invitational 4K unattached, finishing in 23rd with a time of 14:56.8 ... registered an 11th-place finish at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener, completing the 5K in 18:25.3 ... ran for the Falcons at the All-Ohio Collegiate XC Championships, crossing the finish line in 22:54.6 ... competed for the Orange and Brown at the MAC Championships, finishing 39th in a time of 22:23.9 ... finished the year at the Great Lakes Regionals, completing the 6K in 23:03.3 ... was a 2018 Academic All-MAC honoree.  Indoor:  Ran the 800m, mile and 3000m as well as the Distance Medley Relay team at the MAC Championships ... posted the team's season-best times in both the 800m and the mile ... notched a season-best time of 2:22.94 for 800m to finish third at the Toledo Dual ... recorded a season-best mark of 5:10.83 in the mile at the Doug Raymond Invitational ... received Academic All-MAC accolades.  Outdoor:  Did not compete ... was redshirted.

2017-18:  Cross Country:  Competed unattached at the Mel Brodt Invitational, finishing fifth overall with a time of 18:21.2 ... finished 39th overall at the Spartan Invitational, recording a time of 22:55.4 ... placed 56th out of 204 participants at the Joe Piane Invitational ... finished second for the Falcons at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, crossing the line in 22:01.4 ... competed in the MAC Championship 6K race, recording a time of 22:18.3 ... ran a 22:49.7 at the Great Lakes Regional 6k race.  Indoor:  Ran the 800m, mile and 3000m as well as the Distance Medley Relay team at the MAC Championships ... competed in the mile at the MAC Championships, finishing 15th in 5:07.71 ... had a season-best time of 5:02.57 in the mile at The Big Meet ... ran leadoff on the sixth-place DMR that posted a time of 12:02.14 at the MAC Championships ... competed in the 3000m just once, running 10:14.14 at the Akron Invitational ... ran the 800m in 2:18.49 at the Silverston Invitational.  Outdoor:  Ran the 800m, 1500m and 2000m steeplechase ... placed 15th at the MAC Championships in the 1500m race with a time of 4:44.36 ... posted a career-best time of 4:38.62 in the 1500m at the Raleigh Relays ... had the top 800m time on the team in 2018, running 2:17.93 to place second in the Toledo Dual ... ran the 2000m steeplechase at the Toledo Dual, posting a time of 7:19.37.

High School:  A 2017 graduate of Flushing High School ... was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track & field for the Raiders ... was a three-time team MVP for coach Kathy McGowan ... qualified for the MHSAA Division 1 state cross country meet all four years ... placed 15th at the 2016 MHSAA meet to earn All-State honors ... finished second at the regional meet as a senior in a personal-best time of 18:24.6 ... won both the Corunna Early Bird and Kayla O'Mara Invitational in 2016 ... took first in three cross country meets as a junior (Corunna Early Bird, and Flint Metro League Jamboree #1 and #2) ... won six meets during prep cross country career ... competed at the state track and field meet three straight seasons ... ran anchor on the 4x800m relay as a sophomore ... participated in the 3200m race at the 2016 state meet and had a personal-best time of 11:12.13 ... placed 16th in the 1600m race as a senior by clocking in at 5:02.10 ... was a three-year team captain in both sports ... received All-Academic recognition ... was a member of the National Honor Society.

Lindstrom ... born on December 10, 1998, in Grand Blanc, Mich. ... daughter of Brian and Patricia Lindstrom ... father ran cross country at Spring Arbor and Saginaw Valley ... has two brothers, Caleb and Jared ... currently pursuing a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Coach Lofdahl on Jessi Lindstrom:  "Jessi is a very talented runner who will make an immediate impact on our team.  She had some great accomplishments as a high school runner when she was a teammate of Thailyia Christensen, and I know those two are excited to be running together again.  She also was a top-five runner on a very solid Bowling Green squad, and brings a lot of big-race experience for our young team."

BRITNEY CARNAGIE

2020-21:  INDOOR:  Competed in two regular-season meets, plus the MIAA Championships (3/5) ... finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.85) at the league meet.  OUTDOOR:  Competed in four regular-season meets, the MIAA Field Day, along with two last-chance meets ... won the javelin at the league championships (39.99m) ... had a career-best throw of 42.32m at the NCC Gregory Final Qualifier (5/19-20) ... placed 17th at the NCAA D3 Championships in the javelin (37.40m) ... posted season-best marks of 29.70 (200m dash) and 4.52m (long jump) at the Comet Invitational (4/2) ... finished fourth at the league meet in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 16.65.

2019-20:  INDOOR:  Competed in six regular-season meets, plus the MIAA Championships (2/29) ... finished second in the 60m hurdles in a career-best time of 9.38, sixth in the long jump (4.99m, which equaled her career best mark) and 14th 200m dash (29.16) ... posted a career-best time of 28.44 for 200m at the Hillsdale Tune-Up (2/22).  OUTDOOR:  Season canceled due to COVID.

2018-19:  INDOOR:  Competed in three regular-season meets ... posted a season-best time of 9.55 in the 60m hurdles event at the Tiffin Dragon Open (1/19) ... garnered a season-best mark of 4.55m in the long jump at the Defiance Invite (1/26) ... recorded a career-best height of 2.75m in the pole vault, also at Defiance.  OUTDOOR:  Earned All-America honors after a sixth-place finish in the javelin at the NCAA D3 National Championships with a season-best throw of 42.11m ... competed in one regular-season meet, the MIAA Championships (5/2-3), and two last-chance meets.

2017-18:  INDOOR:  Competed in four regular-season meets, plus the MIAA Championships (2/24) ... placed fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.84) at the league championships, 10th in the high jump (career best 1.35m) and 13th in the long jump (4.58m) ... posted a season-best time of 9.73 in the 60m hurdles at the Hillsdale Tune-Up (2/17) ... notched a season-best mark of 4.78m in the long jump at the Zimmer Classic (2/2-3).  OUTDOOR:  Competed in four regular-season meets, plus the MIAA Championships (5/3-4) ... won the javelin (41.00m) and finished fourth in the finals of the 100m hurdles (15.56w) at the conference championships ... recorded a season-best throw of 42.31m at the Hillsdale Gina Relays (4/27-28) ... participated in two last-chance meets and qualified for the NCAA Division 3 national championships in the javelin ... finished 18th with a throw of 37.44m.

Coach Crowder on Britney Carnagie:  "We are happy to add Britney as the final addition to our throws group.  With javelin being her primary event, we will be able to compete well in all areas of the throws during the outdoor season.  Her strength, determination, and work ethic will add beautifully to the team dynamic."

Coach Miller on Kay-Lee McSwain and Savannah Pointe:  "Coach Lofdahl and I are very excited to be adding more hard working individuals to our team for the fall of 2021.  I am looking forward to coaching both Kay-Lee and Savannah as they both are great students, talented athletes, and avid learners of the sport.  Kay-Lee is one of the top hurdlers in the state and just as importantly a captain of a very talented and focused team.  Kay-Lee will be welcomed along with four other incoming hurdlers as we look to create a strong training group this upcoming fall.  Savannah was our last addition to the Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles group and was also a captain of her team in her senior year.  Savannah competed in many events in high school and will train for the pentathlon and heptathlon, while specializing in the hurdles this upcoming season.  With all of that said, these two are adding to a great incoming group of freshmen and will be pushed to make an immediate impact for our team at the conference championships."

KAY-LEE McSWAIN
High School:  A 2021 graduate of Ann Arbor Huron High School ... was a two-year letterwinner for the River Rats and coach Candice Davis-Price (since 2020 season was canceled) ... ran the third leg on the state runner-up 4x100m relay as a senior ... finished second at the 2021 MHSAA Division 1 Regional track meet in the 100m hurdles in a personal-best time of 14.79 ... also competed in the 300m hurdles, long jump and 4x100m relay at the regional meet ... qualified for the state finals in the 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay as a sophomore in 2019 ... served as a track team captain as a senior ... ran for the Ann Arbor Track Club at the 2019 New Balance Nationals Outdoor in both the 4x100m relay and SMR relay ... participated at the 2021 adidas Indoor Nationals in both the 55m hurdles and 60m hurdles.

High School:  A 2021 graduate of Anchor Bay High School ... was a three-year letterwinner (2018-19-21) for the Tars since the 2020 season was canceled ... received All-County honors for the 3200m relay ... placed second at the 2021 Macomb Area Conference championships in the 100m hurdles ... competed in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles at the 2018 and 2019 MHSAA Division 1 Regional track meet ... clocked in personal-best times of 16.97 for 100m hurdles and 50.79 for 300m hurdles at the 2019 MAC White Division championships and the 2019 Macomb County Championships, respectively ... served as a track team captain ... also lettered in cross country ... ran a personal-best 22:37.5 for 5K at the 2020 MHSAA Regional meet ... earned All-Academic recognition for maintaining a GPA of over 4.0.
