DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (11-5 overall, 7-4 GLIAC) had its four-game winning streak snapped by visiting Ferris State University (14-6 overall, 8-4 GLIAC) 73-65 Saturday afternoon at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The host Warriors led 21-16 after 10 minutes as senior Grace George (DeWitt, Mich.) broke the school record for points in a quarter with 18 on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 at the charity stripe.  Brittany Streetman had a 16-point fourth quarter on February 1, 2016, at Findlay in the first year the women's collegiate game went to quarters from halves.

WSU scored the first four points on two free throws by George and a lay-up by senior Sam Cherney (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington), off a pass from George.  The Bulldogs tallied six of the next eight points to even the score at 6-6.  A triple by FSU's Zoe Anderson gave the guests their first lead of the game, before George answered with a long-range shot, which started a 6-0 run by the Warriors.  A Mallory McCartney three pointer evened the score at 12-12, prior to George's triple.  Wayne State led 19-14 after two made foul shots by George, who ended the stanza with a pair of free throws.

Second Quarter
Ferris State out-scored the Warriors 17-8 in the period as WSU connected on just 3-of-12 field goal attempts, including 2-of-6 from three-point range.  Seven Wayne State miscues led to seven fast break points for the Bulldogs and a 4-0 edge in points off turnovers in the stanza.

The Warriors led 24-18 following a triple by junior Becca Fugate (Holly, Mich.), but FSU responded with a 7-0 run for a 25-24 advantage.  A triple by senior Alexis Miller (Howell, Mich.) at the 6:32 mark gave WSU the lead at 27-25.  A bucket by Cherney extended the margin to four (29-25), before Ferris State concluded the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 33-29 at the break.

Third Quarter
The Wayne State deficit grew to 10 (41-31) as the Bulldogs scored eight of the first 10 points of the second half.  After a lay-up by freshman Shea Tripp (Jackson, Mich. / Michigan Center) cut the margin to eight (41-33), back-to-back FSU baskets by Mya Hirma and Ellie Dykstra pushed the Ferris State advantage to 12 (45-33) at the mid-point of the quarter.  The Warriors trimmed the deficit to six (46-40) on a lay-up by senior Kate Sherwood (Canton, Mich. / Belleville), but the Bulldogs had a 50-42 lead after 30 minutes.

Fourth Quarter
WSU trailed by five (54-49) at the 7:51 mark following a triple by George, but FSU's Anderson answered with her own long-range shot and Chloe Idoni converted an old-fashioned three-point play for a 11-point margin (60-49) at the 5:03 mark.

Over the next 4:30, Wayne State out-scored the visitors 13-8 to pull within six (68-62) on a triple by Sherwood.  FSU made 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the final 25 seconds to seal the win.
