Women's Swim and Dive Collects Win at Ashland

The Warriors won 11 events.

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's swim and dive team continued its strong start to the season by defeating Ashland yesterday afternoon.  The Warriors won by a final score of 161-71. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Green and Gold kicked off the meet with a strong start, claiming the top three spots in the 1650 free.  Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) placed first with a time of 17:55.02, Megan Sieloff (Grand Blanc, Mich.) earned second with a time of 18:14.58 and Diana Muccioli (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) touched out in third with a time of 18:33.03.  

Following that, Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Austrailia) and Isidora Sekaric (Windsor, Ont. / W.F. Herman Academy) placed first and second, respectively, in the 200 free.  Fox touched the wall in 1:57.17, while Sekaric earned a time of 1:58.32.  The 50 free was a strong event for the Warriors, as Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North), Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.) and Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) placed first through third, respectively.  Gurecki recorded a time of 25.07, Waters registered a time of 25.41 and Branford posted a time of 25.53. 

Following that race, WSU again claimed the top three spots in another event.  This time Elly Belmore (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview), Hasten Horling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview) and Megan Elmquist (Davison, Mich.) were the top-three finishers in the 400 IM.  Belmore had a time of 4:39.17, Horling touched out in 4:41.83 and Elmquist notched a time of 4:57.13.  

In the one-meter diving event, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) was strong, as she won the competition with a score of 259.20.  Later in the meet, she also won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 252.60.  McKenzie Valencia-Moore (South Lyon, Mich.) was second in that event, earning a score of 200.35.  

Munoz continued WSU's winning ways by claiming the top spot in the 100 fly.  She had a time of 59.94. Sekaric and Branford were great in the 100 free, as they finished first and second, respectively.  Sekaric earned a time of 54.72, while Branford registered a time of 55.48. 

In the 100 back, Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison), Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston) and Waters were the top-three finishers.  Chorley touched out in 59.40, Dice had a time of 1:00.91 and Waters recorded a time of 1:02.94.  

The Green and Gold also had the top-three finishers in the 500 free, as Fox, Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich.) and Sieloff dominated the field.  Fox was the first to finish, registering a time of 5:13.52.  Vassilakos wasn't far behind her, posting a time of 5:17.79.  Sieloff was also strong in the event, placing third with a time of 5:20.92. 

RELAY RESULTS
To start the meet, the Warriors had a pair of teams post strong times in the 200 medley relay.  The quartet of Chorley, Horling, Dice and Branford won the event with a time of 1:49.66.  Just behind them in second place was the team of Fox, Gurecki, Elmquist and Vassilakos.  That group had a time of 1:52.37.

"We are definitely pushing ourselves with our workouts and our expectations at competitions, and I am really enjoying the camaraderie and performances of our Warriors!  I felt today was really positive with how everyone supported each other, and we saw some really good races and dives, including Mikaela Senkus getting one of the qualifying standards today."

The Warriors will hit the pool again on Nov. 4 at 5 PM, as they host Northern Michigan and Findlay.
