Ransom Allen and Nico Trevino finished in the top 40.

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Wayne State University men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Midwest regional earlier this morning, which was held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.  The Warriors finished 11th with 281 points.

The top 10 teams were: Grand Valley State (58 points), Saginaw Valley State (113 points), Walsh (118 points), Michigan Tech (121 points), Illinois-Springfield (130 points), Lewis (182 points), Northwood (203 points), Cedarville (212 points), Findlay (251 points) and Parkside (276 points).

Leading the way for Wayne State was Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), who earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season.  Allen finished in sixth place with a time of 30:54.63.  Allen will advance to the NCAA National Championship meet as an individual.

The next runner to cross the finish line for WSU was Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage).  He finished in 36th place with a time of 32:13.59.

Antonio Chapa (Portage, Ind.) was also strong for the Warriors, as he collected a 56th-place finish.  He recorded a time of 32:37.14.  Following him was Ethan Byrnes (Plymouth, Mich.), who finished in 82nd place.  He registered a time of 33:09.84.

Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Green and Gold was Adam Hafeli (Lake Orion, Mich.).  Hafeli earned 103rd place with a time of 33:27.00.  Zahid Salodawala (Romeoville, Mich. / Plainfield East) also ran for the Warriors, and he placed 131st with a time of 34:11.79.  The other runner for WSU was Jack Wilson (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), who tallied a time of 34:39.27.  That was good for 149th place.

The top three teams advance to the NCAA National Championship meet in Seattle, Wash.  The rest of the teams will look to earn at-large bids to the national meet.

FROM COACH LOFDAHL
"Ransom ran a nice, patient race today in very tough conditions. He hung back in the lead pack and waited until the last mile to make a move, and nearly grabbed third place -- it was very tight for the 3-4-5-6 spots at the finish. Nico ran his best race in a Warrior uniform in his last one, getting out aggressively and hanging on for a very solid top-40 finish. Antonio and Ethan ran very tough today as well, and Adam hung in there well for a true freshman in his first 10K.  Ultimately our men couldn't overcome the multiple injuries and illnesses that hurt us in the second half of the season, but we will be a very different team in 2023. I'm really proud of our fifth year seniors (Byrnes, Chapa, Trevino, and Salodawala) for all of the work they've put into this program. They're Warriors for life, and will be sorely missed!"
