Ransom Allen finished fourth to earn First Team All-GLIAC recognition.

NEW BOSTON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's cross country team was able to place fourth at the GLIAC Championships, which took place earlier today at Willow Metropark.  Wayne State had two runners place in the top 20 to earn All-GLIAC recognition.

The final team scores were:  Grand Valley State (28 points), Saginaw Valley State (61 points), Michigan Tech (75 points), WSU (103 points), Parkside (105 points), Ferris State (176 points), Purdue Northwest (217 points), Davenport (248 points) and Lake Superior State (264 points).

Leading the pack for Wayne State was the always reliable Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), who claimed First Team All-GLIAC honors by finishing in fourth place.  The redshirt junior recorded a time of 24:30.69.  Redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden) earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors, as he placed 19th with a time of 25:28.56.

The third runner to cross the finish line for Wayne State was redshirt senior Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage), who placed 24th with a time of 25:41.94. He missed receiving All-GLIAC recogntion by just over three seconds.

Graduate student Antonio Chapa (Portage, Ind.) was also strong for the Warriors, as he posted a time of 26:05.94.  That was good for 33rd in the race (29th in team scoring).

Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Warriors was freshman Adam Hafeli (Lake Orion, Mich.), who earned 40th place with a time of 26:29.07.  Redshirt seniors Ethan Byrnes (Plymouth, Mich.), Zahid Salodawala (Romeoville, Ill. / Plainfield East), along with redshirt junior Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) and redshirt sophomore Jack Wilson (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) were also strong for the Green and Gold, finishing 44th, 49th, 50th and 51st, respectively.

FROM COACH LOFDAHL

"Our men have had their share of ups and downs this fall, but today was a good step in the right direction.  Ransom battled with some great runners and will be ready to roll at regionals in two weeks.  Tyler toughed it out despite not feeling his best, and earning All-GLIAC in his first attempt is excellent.  Nico and Antonio moved up throughout the race did what we needed them to do, and Adam was clutch as he has been all season and was the top true freshman finisher in the meet.  Ethan and Zahid stepped up as we needed them to do as fifth-year seniors.  We're not done yet, and these guys may have a surprise or two up their sleeves at regionals in two weeks.

Overall, today went about as well as it possibly could have gone.  I'm thankful to our outstanding coaching staff and to Erika Wallace and the rest of the WSU Athletics staff for helping us pull off an exceptional GLIAC Championship."

UP NEXT

The Warriors will head to Kenosha, Wis. for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 19th.  The time for that meet is still to be determined.
