Women's Swim and Dive Concludes Day 1 Against Findlay and Northern Michigan

The Warriors, Wildcats and Oilers will swim again tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team had a strong showing against Findlay and Northern Michigan earlier tonight inside the Matthaei Natatorium.  The Warriors, Wildcats and Oilers participated in a meet that included shootout 50-yard races and individual medley races where the stroke order was determined seconds before starting.  Team scores are still being determined. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) battled through two heats of the 50 fly to be the WSU representative in the final showdown.  She placed third in the heat with a time of 26.59.  Following that, Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) placed third in the final heat of the 50-yard backstroke.  She recorded a time of 27.04. 

Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) was impressive in the final showdown of the 50 breast, as she finished second with a time of 30.69.  To cap off the showdown races, Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) won the 50 free by touching out in a time of 24.14.  The second-place finisher from Northern Michigan had a time of 24.15. 

The 650 free was a strong event for Wayne State, as the Green and Gold took the top three spots.  Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) was first with a time of 6:43.48, Munoz placed second by registering a time of 6:43.86 and Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich.) took third with a time of 6:47.35.  

In the 100 IM, the participants were given their stroke order just moments before the race.  Elly Belmore (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) posted a time of 1:01.24, which was good enough for second place. 

Diving wise, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) was at the top of her game, winning both the one-meter and three-meter competitions.  In the three-meter event, Senkus earned a score of 284.25.  In the one-meter competition, Senkus had a score of 271.70. 

RELAY RESULTS
To open the meet, Wayne State's foursome of Chorley, Gurecki, Munoz and Tarlev placed second in the 200 medley relay.  The group posted a time of 1:47.91. 

To conclude the night, the Warriors won the 200 free relay.  The quartet of Tarlev, Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston), Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.) and Gurecki touched out in a time of 1:37.72.

"After this first day...my goodness there's some great racing out there!  I was so impressed by all the races and teams, but we are looking at three teams that are in the top 20 and it showed today with their camaraderie, competitive spirit and overall performances.  The Warriors got challenged today, but we met and raised our performances to meet it.  Looking forward to another fast day tomorrow at 10 am!"

UP NEXT
Wayne State will see Findlay and Northern Michigan again when the three squads hit the pool tomorrow morning at 10 AM inside the Matthaei Natatorium.
