Women's Indoor Track & Field Begins 2022-23 Season

Sumrall earns provisional mark in 60m dash.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad began its 2002-23 campaign on Friday at the GVSU Holiday Open.

QUOTING COACH LOFDAHL
"We had a ton of bright spots today, and it was definitely the best opener we've ever had.  Makayla Sumrall did Makayla Sumrall things, nearly breaking her own school record in the 60 dash and running a solid 200.  Renae Kutcha had a very good 400 and an even better leg of the 4x400 relay.  Kay-Lee McSwain looked very good in the hurdles, and Jasmine Correa had an exceptional day with a huge PR in weight and an indoor PR in shot put.  Bri Vojinov and Thailyia Christensen ran outstanding 3Ks, and our 4x4 relay running 3:56 in December was a tremendous way to close the meet.  Some of our freshmen made really nice collegiate debuts today, like Avery Wilson, Idalia Shadhaya, Emmanuela Johnson, and upperclassmen like Kaleigh Flowers, Parys Smith and Macie Ries as well.  This was a great way to end the fall semester, and this team is set up to do huge things in 2023!"
