UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team remained in second place after day two of the 2022 GLIAC Championships. The Warriors tallied 129 points on Saturday after scoring 202 points on Friday.
TEAM STANDINGS
Grand Valley State is in first place with 480 points, while WSU is second with 331 points. Northern Michigan is third with 271 points and is followed by St. Cloud State (213), Saginaw Valley State (141.5), Davenport (116), and Augustana [S.D.] (113.5).
100 FLY
Sophomore
Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) earned an "A" standard time by clocking in at 46.59 to win the GLIAC title and break the school record of 46.69 set in 2015 by Soren Holm.
Junior
Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) placed fourth with a "B" cut time of 48.60. The duo earned 35 points for the Warriors.
400 IM
Sophomore
Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.) placed third and improved his "B" cut time to 3:56.20. Freshman
Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) also improved his "B" cut standard with a fourth-place finish in 3:58.36.
Sophomore
Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) placed 16th (4:09.97) giving WSU 32 points in the event.
200 FREE
Freshman
Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) and senior
Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) finished sixth (1:40.70) and seventh (1:40.71), respectively.
Junior
Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) finished 12th in a time of 1:42.51. The trio earned 30 points for the Warriors.
400 MEDLEY RELAY
The Warrior group of Kinnard, Capizzo, Wolsek and Cvetko clocked in at 3:16.21 to earn a "B" cut time by .01, with their third-place finish.
UP NEXT
The Sunday morning prelims will consist of the 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly, and one-meter diving, while the 800 free relay will take place during the evening finals.
