UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Six (6) members of the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team qualified for tonight's finals - two swimmers in the Championship finals and four in the Consolation finals, with another competitor already scoring in the 1650 timed final.
100 FREE
Sophomore
Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.), who entered the event as the No. 22 seed, posted the top time (44.43), which was a "B" cut standard.
Qualifying for the Consolation finals were senior
Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) and classmate
Noah Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.). Nowinski had the ninth-fastest time (46.18), while Barstad clocked in at 46.31.
Junior
Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) finished 19th (47.14), while sophomore
Collin Che (Midland, Mich. / Dow) was 25th (47.73).
Posting exhibition swims were senior
Abdelrahman Hassan (Cairo, Egypt) in 47.54, freshman
Ryan Kruger (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill) in 48.84, senior
Reid Schoenherr (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) in 50.87, and freshman
Lucas Harding (Chelsea, Mich. / Salem) in 51.82.
200 BACK
Both of WSU's participants qualified for the "B" finals as freshman Clayton Kin-nard (Dexter, Mich.) was ninth (1:51.64), while senior
Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) placed 16th (1:54.64).
200 BREAST
Sophomore
Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.) finished third in a time of 2:02.01 to advance to the Championship finals.
Sophomore
Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) is an alternate after placing 18th in the prelims (2:10.59).
Senior
Sam Krahn (Dexter, Mich.) finished 20th (2:10.64), while freshman
Joey Dombkowski (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) was 23rd (2:14.13).
1650 FREE
Senior
Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) will swim this evening as one of the top eight seeds in the event.
During the morning session timed final freshman
Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) posted the top time of 15:55.24.
Krahn was 12th (16:35.78), while senior
Chris Westgate (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) placed 13th (16:37.80), and Vucelic was 16th (16:53.20) with the top eight seeds competing this evening.
TIME TRIALS
Both junior
Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) and Che swam in the 50 free time trial. Cvetko posted a "B" cut time of 19.69, while Che clocked in at 21.81.
400 FREE RELAY
The 2022 GLIAC Championships will conclude with the men's 400 free relay and the Warriors are the top seed.
UP NEXT
The Monday evening finals will consist of the 100 free, 200 back, and 200 breast, along with the conclusion of the timed final of the 1650 free, while the 400 free relay will conclude the championships.
