Swim and Dive Teams Conclude Day 2 of NCAA Championships

Michael Wolsek finished fifth in the 100 fly, while Jordan Fox earned 11th place in the 200 free.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the NCAA Championships Thursday evening at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The men's team concluded the night in 11th place with 72 points. On the women's side, the Warriors ended up in 18th place with 26 points.

After qualifying with the eighth best time in the morning prelims, Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) came out strong in the 100 fly finals, posting a fifth-place finish. He recorded a time of 46.82 and garnered 14 points for the Green and Gold.

In the consolation finals of the 200 free, Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) finished in 11th place with a time of 1:49.91. That earned the Warriors six points.

To conclude the night, the men's 400 medley relay team of Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.), Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.), Wolsek and Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) placed 12th. They touched out in 3:13.98 and gave WSU 10 points.

The top eight swimmers in each event earn First Team All-American honors, while places 9-16 receive Honorable Mention All-American accolades.

Even though she did not compete in the three-meter diving finals, sophomore Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) earned sixth points for Wayne State after finishing 11th.

UP NEXT
In tomorrow's prelims, Fox will take part in the 500 free, where she is seeded 18th. Following that, Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) will compete in the 100 breast. She is the 13th overall seed. The women's 800 free relay is seeded 10th prior to Friday evening's timed final.
