YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (8-6 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to Eastern Michigan (13-11 overall, 2-2 MAC) Friday night at The Chippewa Club. The match lasted four hours, and coach Sheila Snyder said "We just fell short. I'm very proud of our efforts. We played really hard and competed at every spot."
SINGLES
The Eagles took the doubles point, but
Laura Cazacu (London, England) got the Warriors on the board with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Following her,
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) was able to win her match at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) then won a three set battle at No. 2 singles, edging her opponent 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3.
At No. 4 singles,
Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) was upended 6-3, 6-7 (2), 3-6.
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) fell in her match at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 0-6.
Playing at No. 5 singles,
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) was defeated, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 2-6.
DOUBLES
The No. 1 doubles team of Ruyssen and Komar put up a good fight, but the duo ended up losing 5-7.
At No. 2 doubles, Cazacu and Liong were upended, 2-6.
Douglas and Laynes also lost 2-6 at No. 3 doubles.
