DETROIT -- After collecting a pair of wins over Lewis and Grand Valley State in the Midwest Regional, the Wayne State University men's tennis team has advanced to the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.  With the field of 16 teams finalized, the NCAA reseeded the bracket, and the Warriors earned the No. 4 overall seed.  This is the first Round of 16 appearance in program history.
The Warriors are the top seed in their pod of four teams, and the Green and Gold will meet the No. 13-seed in Southern New Hampshire on May 18th at 8:00 AM.  Should WSU win, it would get the winner of Embry-Riddle and Southern Arkansas.  If the Warriors win their pod, they would be one of four teams left standing for a chance at an NCAA Championship.
WSU is 2-1 against teams remaining in the field of 16.  The Green and Gold defeated Barry and Embry-Riddle and were upended by Indianapolis earlier this season.  In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, the Warriors were ranked No. 10 in the country.  They are the sixth-highest rated team still alive in the NCAA Championships.
Including this year's results, the Warriors are 8-10 all-time in NCAA Championship play.  However, in their last three appearances, WSU has compiled a 4-2 record in tournament play.  The Green and Gold have won 12 straight matches heading into the Round of 16.
