Sumrall Earns Honorable Mention All-America Recognition

Warrior sprinter finished ninth nationally in the 100m dash.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Wayne State University junior sprinter Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.) earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades after finishing ninth in the finals of the 100m dash at the 2022 NCAA Division 2 national championship track and field meet.  She ran a 12.04 this afternoon.

Sumrall, who was seeded 17th out of the original 26 competitors listed on the prelims heat sheets, finished ninth in the prelims (out of 23 runners) after clocking in at a school record 11.61 on Thursday.

She becomes WSU's first outdoor track All-American since hurdler Karrington Seals was a three-time Outdoor Track and Field All-American in the 100m hurdles having finished sixth in 2018 (13.59), 10th in 2016 (13.87) and 12th in 2017 (13.86).
