2022 Football Position Previews - Tight Ends

DETROIT -- Now that fall camp has started, we will continue previewing each position on the 2022 Wayne State University football team with the respective coaches highlighting their groups. In this segment, Jacob Lail discusses the tight ends.

Graduate student Nick Poterack (Byron Center, Mich.) was a 2021 All-GLIAC First Team selection and was recently named to the 2022 top 20 Division II tight ends list by The College Football Network. He has played in 31 games in his three seasons, making 19 starts. Poterack ranks 12th in school history in average yards per catch (17.80 / min. 20 receptions), and tied-for-31st in touchdown receptions (5).

Redshirt sophomore Nathaniel Eberly-Rodriguez (Petoskey, Mich.) dressed for 10 games last season and was selected WSU's Scout Offensive Player of the Week for the Missouri S&T and Davenport contests.

Transfer Tommy Guajardo (Dearborn, Mich.) redshirted at Michigan State in 2020 and Bowling Green in 2021, but was selected to the Detroit News Division 1-2 Honorable Mention All-State team in 2018.

Both Eberly-Rodrgiuez and Guajardo are looking to make their collegiate debuts in 2022. Redshirt sophomore Kaveon Ross (Columbus, Ohio / Walnut Ridge) also returns after appearing in five games as a redshirt freshman in 2021.

Two freshmen who most likely will redshirt are Nick Ostas (Blissfield, Mich.) and Ethan Breaux (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt). Ostas earned First Team All-Lenawee County Athletic Association honors as a senior defensive end, while Breaux totaled 14 catches for 196 yards and one touchdown as a senior for the Bears.

Two newcomers, Gabe Mendoza and Quincy Salter, were mentioned in the running backs article as they will most likely be H-Backs.
