GLIAC -- Senior
Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) and freshman
Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) swept GLIAC Diver of the Week honors on Tuesday as announced by the league office. Senkus is now a nine-time honoree, including twice this season, while Wasiniak received the distinction for the first time in his career.
"Mikaela once again dominated this past weekend through her consistency," said head diving coach
Jason Trout. "She is an athlete that any coach would be lucky to have on deck. Her work ethic and drive continue to set her apart from the field. In addition to leading the way through her diving, Mikaela also shined as a leader by providing support for our younger divers in their first ever mid-season meet."
This past weekend at Davenport's Don Kimble Invitational, Senkus won both the one meter and three-meter boards with scores of 435.30 and 468.15, respectively.
"Max had an excellent mid-season meet and he is just beginning to show the conference the diver that he is capable of being," said Trout. "Max continues to grow at each practice and his determination to better himself in the sport has been incredible. Max continues to prove himself as a true contender in the conference."
Also at the Don Kimble Invite, Wasiniak won the one-meter board (458.40) and placed third at three meters (471.55).
Senkus, Wasiniak and their teammates will next be in action when the calendar flips to 2024. Wayne State will host Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
