MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team was at No. 7 Northern Michigan on Saturday for its GLIAC opening dual meet of the 2023-24 season. The Wildcats outlasted the Warriors, however, with a final score of 171.5-124.5 inside Physical Education Instructional Facility (PEIF) Pool.
"Today, we swam and dove well, but not as well as NMU did," said head coach
Sean Peters. "It was a fast meet with a lot of top performers for the Warriors. While today did not go the way we hoped, I do know that every day, we are doing what we need to do to prepare for our mid-season meet and keep progressing into the second semester. Big shout out today to
Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) and Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) for eclipsing the NCAA standards in diving."
Wadsworth-Curcuru finished in third place for both the one meter and three-meter boards on Saturday with scores of 396.74 and 213.67, respectively. The rookie went over the NCAA Division II standard of 390 with that one-meter mark.
