10 Men's Cross Country Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-GLIAC Honors

This is the fourth straight year the squad has had at least 10 academic recipients.

DETROIT -- Ten (10) members of the 2022 Wayne State University men's cross country squad were recognized with GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) All-Academic accolades.  The 10 recipients marks the fourth consecutive season the Warriors have had at least 10 honorees.  Over the last 13 years, 93 WSU men's cross country student-athletes have earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, and not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

The five student-athletes receiving All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were redshirt juniors Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) and Donald O'Keefe (Troy, Mich.), along with sophomores Eli DiCerbo (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Macomb Mathematics Science and Technology Center) and Carson Nicoletti (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica).

Allen (Mechanical Engineering), Cavallo (Biomedical Engineering) and O'Keefe (Finance) were recognized for the third straight season, while DiCerbo (Mathematics) and Nicoletti (Marketing) were first time eligible.

The five runners receiving All-Academic Team recognition for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 were redshirt seniors Zahid Salodawala (Romeoville, Ill. / Plainfield East) and Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage), redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden), along with sophomore Corban Hauch (West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West), and redshirt freshman Stevan Stajic (Belle River, Ont. / Tecumseh Vista Academy).

This is the fourth consecutive year that Salodawala (Dietetics) and Trevino (Mechanical Engineering) were each recognized, while Buchanan (Exercise and Sport Science) was honored for the second straight season.  Earning All-Academic honors in their first season eligible were Hauch (Electrical Engineering) and Stajic (Biomedical Engineering).

Allen finished ninth the NCAA Championship meet, the highest finish ever by a WSU men's cross country runner.  Buchanan (19th), Cavallo (50th), Salodawala, and Trevino (36th) all competed at the GLIAC Championships.
