Two members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad competed on Thursday at two different competitions.
AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore
Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) was one of 77 participants in the timed 400m hurdles finals at the Texas Relays. Wellner posted a time of 1:06.25 to finish 65th.
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Redshirt senior thrower
Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) posted a personal-best mark of 32.56m in the javelin to finish 19th. Her toss of 106-10 was the sixth-best in program history.
Both Warriors competed in fields with numerous Division 1 student-athletes.
On Friday (3/31) at the Texas Relays, senior
Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.) will run in the 100m dash, while the 4x400m relay quartet of freshman
Elyse Miller (Woodhaven, Mich. / Gibraltar Carlson), sophomore
Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi), freshman
Avery Wilson (Davison, Mich.) and Wellner will also race.
At the Texas State Bobcat Invitational on Friday (3/31), Taylor will participate in the shot put, while Sumrall will change venues and run the 200m dash. Freshman
Rachel Felstow (Leonard, Mich. / Romeo) and sophomore
Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) will run the 800m and 1500m.
The rest of the Warriors will be traveling to East Lansing for the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational.
