INDIANAPOLIS -- Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) of the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team dove on Tuesday in the NCAA Championships' pre-qualification event and has advanced to the National Championships beginning on Wednesday. He finished in 12th place out of 25 divers for the one-meter dive and 18th out of 26 for the three-meter diving event.
On Tuesday morning, Porter turned in a final score of 243.30 on the one-meter board with averages of 5.72 per event and 40.55 per round. For the three-meter board, Porter's final mark was 225.25, including 4.72 per event and 37.54 per round.
For the NCAA Championships, the three-meter prelims and finals will take place on Thursday with the one-meter prelims and finals coming on Saturday.
Wayne State competed in the 800 free relay on Tuesday night and placed 16th (Honorable Mention All-Americans) with a time of 6:37.52. The quartet included
