Swimming and Diving Squads Welcome Grand Valley State to Matthaei

Both Laker teams are ranked among the CSCAA's top six.

DETROIT -- The nationally ranked Wayne State University men's (No. 21) and women's (No. 12) swimming and diving programs will compete at home for the second week in a row on Saturday afternoon inside the Matthaei Natatorium.  The Warriors will host GLIAC rival Grand Valley State, a school that's ranked No. 4 on the men's side while the women come in at No. 6.

"We are excited to host GVSU at Matthaei this Saturday," said head coach Sean Peters.  "GVSU's programs are ranked very highly by the CSCAA so this dual represents an opportunity to come watch some amazing performances by both squads.  I know it is definitely a daunting task ahead of us, but I do believe that our programs continue to improve throughout the year, and I saw strong signs of it with both our men and women last week.

I am looking forward to a wonderful opportunity to race and it will be a great showcase of some of the top performers in both the GLIAC and NCAA on display right here at the Matthaei."

For both the men and women, WSU is in the midst of a three-dual stretch against ranked opponents.  Following Saturday's action against GVSU, Wayne State will travel to Findlay (No. 9 men, No. 13 women) on Friday, January 19.

Like the Warriors, the Lakers are coached by a seasoned veteran in 18th-year man Andy Boyce.  Boyce's associate head coach is Eric Murray while Steve Burciaga is in charge of the diving department.
