DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams will host Findlay on Friday afternoon (1 PM) before seeing both the Oilers and Northern Michigan on Saturday morning (10 AM). For the men, WSU is ranked 18th according to the CSCAA's preseason poll while UF and NMU are both tied-for-10th. On the women's side, the Warriors are slotted at No. 19, the Oilers at No. 17 and the Wildcats at No. 10.
"We are excited to welcome two amazing programs to Wayne State this weekend with both nationally-ranked Findlay and Northern Michigan coming to compete against the Warriors," said head coach
Sean Peters. "Both programs have terrific athletes, are well coached and have produced NCAA Champions in the past couple years. I always enjoy competing against great competition, and that's what awaits us this weekend."
Most recently schedule wise for Wayne State, on Friday, Oct. 18, the men defeated No. 21 Davenport at home 135-103, while the women took care of the No. 13 Panthers as well, 147-90. The only other dual so far with final team scores for either squad was a win for the Warrior women at home against Hillsdale on Saturday, Oct. 12, 117-83.
Findlay is coached by second-year leader Diego Santos following time as a full-time assistant coach, graduate assistant and volunteer assistant, all with the Oilers. Santos stepped into the full-time role for Findlay on June 15, 2023. His assistant coach, in her second campaign with UF as well, is Daniela Navarrete Villegas.
Northern Michigan is led by 15th-year head coach and five-time GLIAC Coach of the Year (two men, two women and one combined) Heidi Voigt. Voight's staff includes Matt Williams as associate head coach, Christopher Kelly as the head diving coach and Grant Combs in a student assistant position.
Following this week's action, Wayne State will turn its attention to Davenport's Don Kimble Invitational on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 22-24. The times and opponents for that three-day affair are to be decided.
