Cross Country Travels to Illinois for NCAA Midwest Regional Race

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's cross country teams prepare to travel to Romeoville, Ill., for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Race.  The meet is hosted by Lewis University at the Lewis Cross Country Course.  The men will compete in a 10-kilometer race at 11:00 AM, followed by the women's six-kilometer race at 12:15 PM.

Reagan Justice (Canton Mich. / Salem), Briana Vojinov (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven), Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich. Northville), Taylor Hopkins (Sanford, Mich. / Meridian), Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova), Mattie Drennan (Clarkston, Mich. Clarkston), and Aubrey Migoski (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt) will represent the Warriors in the 6K.

For the men, Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden), Sean Pettis (Fremont, Mich. / Fremont), Carson Nicoletti (Shelby Township, Mich. / Utica), Brady Heron (Northville, Mich. / Northville), Jared Platt (White Lake, Mich. / White Lake Lakeland), Ty Nagy (Commerce Township, Mich. / White Lake Lakeland), and Tyler Brothers (Shelby Township, Mich. / Eisenhower) are set to compete for the Green and Gold in the 10K.

Anna Gdowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and Griffin Conway (Novi, Mich. / Novi) will be the alternates for Wayne State.  The two will race in the event that another student-athlete is unable to.

HEAD COACH GRANT LOFDAHL REGARDING THE MEN
"It's been an up-and-down season for our guys, with some illnesses and a few injuries unfortunately playing a role.  They've continued to grind, kept a good attitude, and trust the process, and they are ready to throw down their best efforts of the year on Saturday.  Tyler Buchanan and Carson Nicoletti have big-meet experience as well as a sense of urgency, knowing this could be their final race.  I think those guys are going to bring it.  Sean Pettis and Tyler Brothers have been models of consistency, which is very rare among freshmen.  Both of them are ready to tackle their first 10K cross country race, and I think they'll excel in it.  Ty (Nagy), Jared (Platt), and Brady (Heron) have made big strides in their second season of collegiate competition, and all are ready for this challenge."

"On paper, we aren't a top-10 team going into the meet, but races aren't run on paper.  The training our guys have put in, along with their selfless, team-centered mentality, gives us a chance to significantly out-perform other people's expectations."

LOFDAHL ON THE WOMEN
"This team has been solid and consistent all season, but hasn't quite hit its stride in totality yet.  I think we're going to see that happen on Saturday.  Reagan (Justice) is one of the contenders to win a regional title, Bri (Vojinov) is fully healthy and confident for the first time in a while, and Emily (Gordon), Taylor (Hopkins), and Mattie (Drennan) have upperclassman experience from previous regionals and are peaking at the right time.  Robin (Bresolin) and Aubrey (Migoski) have really been impressive over the past month, and I see either one or both of them as a potential secret weapon for us this weekend."

"We're really excited for the opportunity to punch a ticket to Sacramento, and I know the ladies are eager to get to the course and compete against the best runners in the Midwest.  The primary goal is a top-3 finish and an auto-qualifying bid for NCAAs."
