DETROIT -- In case you missed it on Feb. 10th, Wayne State University was awarded the second annual I-96 Blood Battle trophy, winning by seven percentage points, only two donors, over Davenport University.
Between the two universities, a total of 63 units of blood were collected, meaning up to 189 lives saved by their combined efforts. That means more life, more love, and more memories for the most vulnerable patients, those suffering unexpected trauma and chronic illness every day.
Donation is the only source of lifesaving blood for patients, so congratulations to both schools for their tremendous work and dedication to their communities. And a huge thank you to everyone who came out to donate, especially to the 17 individuals who were first-time donors!
The need for blood is urgent and constant. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. If you missed participating in the I-96 Blood Battle, please consider donating at another blood drive near you. As a reminder, individuals are typically eligible to donate once every eight weeks.
The I-96 Blood Battle is an annual event, so stay on the lookout for information about the third annual competition. And congratulations again to both universities and their commitment to this life-saving cause!
