Women's Track Notches Three NCAA Provisional Marks On Friday

Justice (10K) along with Christensen and Ray (Steeplechase) recorded NCAA Provisional times.

CALIFORNIA -- Members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad competed at two different meets on Friday.

At the Long Beach State Beach Invite, a total of five student-athletes participated with two (Thailyia Christensen and Katherine Ray) notching NCAA Division 2 provisional marks in the steeplechase.

Christensen, a redshirt senior from Flushing, bettered her PR by 2.31 seconds and finished with a time of 10:37.86. Ray, a redshirt senior from Novi, eclipsed her PR by over 14 seconds and finished at 11:01.23.

Sophomore Annabelle Smith (Blissfield, Mich.) and redshirt senior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) both competed in the long jump. Smith placed 46th with a mark of 5.50m, while Williams finished 59th with a distance of 5.31m. Smith's distance of 18-00.50 was fifth in WSU history.

Smith and freshman Rachel Overgaard (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) both ran in the 200m dash. Overgaard finished 24th (25.74), with Smith placing 39th (26.34). Overgaard also ran the 100m dash and finished 64th (12.70).

Williams did not record a mark in the high jump.

The other site on Friday was the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational.

Junior Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem) ran the fastest 10K race by a Warrior in the last nine years clocking in at 35:26.69, which is the third fastest in program history. Her time also ranks approximately 10th in D2 this spring as she bettered her PR by over 45 seconds.

Junior Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) placed 73rd in her section of the 800m run with a time of 2:12.45, which ranks second in school history behind the 2:11.66 set by Jackie Feist at the 2019 Hillsdale Last Chance Classic.

Two guys also competed at the APBCI. Ransom Allen placed 20th in the men's 5K (Open A Flight) with a time of 14:22.93, while Tyler Buchanan finished 66th in the Open B flight with a time of 14:47.30.

UP NEXT
At Long Beach on Saturday, Ethan Pruzinsky will be running in the men's 1500m race. He is also scheduled to run earlier on Saturday at the APBCI in the 5K event at 7:30 AM Pacific time. In addition, Buchanan and Allen are slated to run the 1500m race in the Open B flight at 11 PM Pacific time Saturday evening.

A number of Warriors will be competing on Saturday at the APBCI. The 4x100m relay quartet of Sasha-Gay Thompson, Mikaela OWen, Hanne Bastiaansen and Avery Wilson will run at 1:15 PM (ET), with Wilson participating in the 400m dash at 1:55 PM (ET). Bastiaansen will run in the 100m dash at 3 PM (ET) and the 200m dash at 6:35 PM (ET). The 4x400m relay group of Elyse Miller, Wilson, Renae Kutcha and Keneisha Thomas will take to the track at 7:30 PM (ET), followed by Ray in the 1500m race at 8 PM (ET). The final event will have Christensen and Gordon also running the 1500m event at 1:10 AM (ET) Sunday morning.
