Grey Nets Another GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week Honor

It's the fourth time this season in 11 weeks the senior has been recognized.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University men's tennis senior Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Grey led the way for the Warriors in the squad's home matches against #36-Grand Valley State and #28-Ferris State last weekend.  The WSU standout, ranked eighth in Division II for singles, defeated a pair of formidable opponents in the category - who were also ranked nationally via the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) computerized rankings.

In the Green and Gold's 4-3 triumph over GVSU this past Friday, April 12, Grey downed the No. 60-ranked Denys Zamaraiev by set scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 6-1.  He then handled the No, 19-ranked Esunge Ndumbe 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday, April 14, against FSU.  Both matches for the senior came at the No. 1 position, where Grey is a strong 14-5 for the campaign (15-5 overall).  That ledger includes a spotless 4-0 mark in the GLIAC.

Additionally, Grey and his doubles partner Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) dropped the Lakers' Sean Miller and Victor Lopes by a 6-4 score at the first flight for their 13th victory (13-7 overall) together this spring season.

A student-athlete on the team has now been recognized with this award in seven out of the 11 weeks this season, as well as the last three straight awards given out by the conference.  In addition to Grey's four times, Drenth has been named Player of the Week twice and Dom Spicer (London, England) once - which came last week on April 10.

Overall, it's the sixth time in his collegiate career that Grey has been honored with Player of the Week recognition.

Grey and the rest of his Wayne State teammates will play the final two matches of the regular season this weekend at Purdue Northwest and Davenport.  WSU and PNW will meet for a 2 p.m. Eastern first serve on Friday, April 19, before the Warriors and Panthers square off at 1 p.m. the following day on Saturday, April 20, in the regular-season finale.
